Bugsy Malone School Play!

I went to see my thirteen-year-old daughter perform on stage tonight, in a school play: Bugsy Malone, based on the 1970's musical film. She was one of the dancers/singers. I was impressed at how well these kids performed on stage! I was very shy at her age, but she wasn't even nervous.

They had been practicing since January, and every day for the last two weeks.  She slept with rollers all night and woke up with curly hair.  It's hard work being a star! They got rewarded for all their efforts tonight, by an very lively audience clapping and cheering, including a standing ovation at the end.  As a bonus, my daughter enjoyed doing all the things I usually don't allow her to do: wearing make-up, nail polish, and a short skirt.  Hmm... Just for this one time.

The actors had a lot of interaction with the audience.  Bugsy, a tiny sixth-grader with a suit and a hat, came from the back and shook hands with people on the way to the front, complimenting ladies on their hair and introducing himself.  The news girl threw rolled-up gazettes to the audience every time there were breaking news.  Instead of cream-shooting guns as in the original movie, they used silly string. They shot the audience at the end, to the delight of my two younger kids.

My eight-year-old daugher went around during intermission and got everyone's autographs, as you can see on the picture above.  She was very excited to meet all these "famous" people and ask them to sign her program!

These kids must have felt like superstars tonight, wearing make-up and costumes and signing autographs. It was awesome!! *beam* And I'm so proud of my daughter, I can't help bragging a little.

This is awesome, Annie! I can't believe you made her sleep in rollers. You should of tied it up in rags. Same effect, more comfortable to sleep in...lol...I only know that because Jayde does it. Do I look like a hairdresser...Wait! Don't answer that! haha!!

The rolls weren't my idea, it was hers. She borrowed them from a friend. I never tried curling hair using rags. Next time she needs a fancy hairstyle, I'll go to you for advice. LOL
