One story that has helped to inspire me on my creative endeavor is the brothers Grimm's story of "Mother Holle." It is also based on an ancient Germanic folklore goddess known as Holda, a protector of children and transformer of the land, for when it snows, it is said that Holda is shaking out feathers from her magic blanket.
This is a story about a boy who gives up immortality to find true love.
Positive Points
This e-book features original watercolor illustrations at the beginning of each chapter. It looks great on my Kindle Fire! I just wish they were a bit bigger, but it probably depends on the e-book format used. This is a good example of how an author can use modern technology to enhance a novel. For printed novels, publishers often opt for black-and-white illustrations, if any, to save on cost.
The story reads like a traditional fairy tale, with unique elements that include magic feathers, the Grim Reaper with her scythe, a circus, a grieving girl, two mischievous pigeons, and a kindhearted boy travelling with a flying sheet. I could easily imagine sitting by the fireplace, listening to a storyteller as I watch the story unfold in my mind.
The author worked extensively on his story before publishing it. I helped him with it and saw how much work he invested in revising his story until it shines. I admire his dedication to publishing a good quality story, asking questions after revising to make sure no mistakes had been added.

What Makes This Book Unique
The story is named after a character I had never heard of, which makes me want to read the original story to see the inspiration behind the book. There are plenty of stories based on Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and other well-known fairy tales, but it's the first time I hear about Mother Holle.
Overall Impression
This would be a good story for a parent to read aloud to a child at bedtime. With sixteen short chapters, it falls in the chapter book category.

Interesting that it's more in the chapter book category - since it's about finding true love! But I guess children love any great adventure :)
