The following seven lines come from my MG adventure novel, MEREDITH MOUNTAIN MIRACLE. Incidentally, this is a part someone had suggested I removed from my story because it doesn't really advance the plot. It may eventually become a deleted scene, but for now, it's still part of my novel.
Twenty pairs of eyes fixed on Emilio, waiting to hear more. His ears burned. Better change the subject. "Um... any sandwiches left? I'm starving." He peeked into the box on the table. Empty.
They all turned to Coach Harry, who whistled and looked into nowhere, pretending he hadn't heard.
"Big Harry!" Hans scolded, with a hand on his hip. "Didn't you leave anything for us?"

Coach Harry looked at the two dripping wet boys, then hesitated before taking three… no, … four sandwiches out of his backpack. He shook his head and sighed. "There goes my afternoon snack."
